OLSC Structure

The Office of the NSW Legal Services Commissioner (OLSC) is based in Sydney.

The NSW Legal Services Commissioner is appointed by the Governor of NSW for a 5 year appointment term.   The NSW Legal Services Commissioner provides the strategic direction of the OLSC and is assisted in day-to-day management of operations by the Assistant Commissioner (Legal) and the Complaints Manager.

The OLSC has five teams:

Legal & Investigation Team

The Legal & Investigation team is led by the Assistant Commissioner (Legal). The team deals with complaints involving issues of unsatisfactory professional conduct or professional misconduct and also conducts compliance audits of law practices.  The team also has the carriage of disciplinary proceedings before the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal - Occupational Division (NCAT), proceedings seeking administrative review of the NSW Legal Services Commissioner’s decisions and any judicial review or appeal proceedings before the Supreme Court of NSW and the Court of Appeal.

Mediation & Investigation Team

The Mediation & Investigation team is led by the Complaints Manager. The team handles complaints involving consumer matters and costs disputes.

Business Support Teams

The Information Services & Systems team handles the OLSC's information technology, statistical reporting and Departmental reporting requirements.

The Administration Manager provides human resources, financial support and advice to the NSW Legal Services Commissioner.

The Client Services team provide general administration.

Inquiry Line Team

The Inquiry Line team handles initial enquiries and calls for information on making complaints about lawyers and complaint processes.

Personal Conduct Team

The Personal Conduct Team handles initial enquiries and informal reports about inappropriate personal conduct by a lawyer or someone working in a law practice.
